Lauren Huffmaster is a beacon of hope and resilience—a metastatic breast cancer survivor who has channeled her trials into a triumphant mission of support and advocacy. As a speaker, author, coach, and entrepreneur, Lauren has founded the Adventure Therapy Foundation, the RISE coaching program, and CanBe Innovations, Inc., including the innovative CanBe App. Her academic journey at The University of the South in Tennessee and at Middle Tennessee State University laid the groundwork for her visionary leadership in revolutionizing global perspectives on cancer survivorship.
Lauren’s personal journey with cancer is profound and deeply motivating. Diagnosed with stage four breast cancer at the age of 37, she faced the staggering reality of what her condition would mean for her young children. Yet, it was through this life-altering experience that Lauren found an unparalleled empowerment—a calling that would drive her to alleviate the pain of others battling cancer.“Cancer is not a valley shadowed by past triumphs; it is my life’s calling,” Lauren asserts. “Through my brokenness, I aspire to demonstrate love. I established Adventure Therapy to create an avenue to serve and support those affected by cancer. My personal battle fuels my dedication to developing solutions that ease the cancer burden for others.”
Recognizing the emotional strain cancer imposes on both patients and their families, Lauren’s compassion extends to spouses and children who silently endure alongside their loved ones. In 2017, she brought Adventure Therapy Foundation to life, a non-profit dedicated to offering emotional healing and cherished moments through cancer coaching and outdoor retreats. At 40, James’s journey has been far from ordinary—marked by a relentless quest for understanding the mechanics of the world, from the engineering marvels that power our society to the philosophical musings that explain our very existence.
A self-described non-academic in his youth, James’s fascination with how things work propelled him into a 20-year career in electrical power generation, including a pivotal role as a power plant operator of a significant 880-megawatt facility in Pittsburg, California. His exemplary work ethic and deep industry knowledge earned him a swift promotion to maintenance supervisor at the Northern California Power Agency, where his leadership continues to make waves.
Yet, it is the spirit of entrepreneurship that truly captures the essence of James. From co-founding the thriving Vamp Salon in 2011, alongside his wife and sister-in-law, to tackling the challenges that every small business proprietor encounters, James has emerged with a wealth of experience and an unwavering commitment to business development and project management.His entrepreneurial drive has now found a new focus in the tech startup sphere, where he is the co-founder and acting Chief Innovation Officer for CanBe Innovations. Here, his innovative zeal converges with a deeply personal mission. Having valiantly faced and overcome stage 2B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma—a harrowing journey that left him on the brink—James has emerged with a renewed purpose: to innovate the cancer experience and provide support for those walking the path he once trod.
As an advocate, volunteer, and supporter of cancer charities, James channels his personal ordeal into a force for good. His commitment is to use his love for technology to create avenues of hope and healing for the cancer community, inspired by the profound support and love he received during his own battle.
