CanBe Innovations CEO and founder of Adventure Therapy Foundation: How Lauren Huffmaster is Transforming Lives of Cancer-Affected Families
In the heart of Oakley, a beacon of hope shines brightly in the form of the Adventure Therapy Foundation, established by Lauren Huffmaster. A warrior in her own right, Huffmaster’s journey through stage four metastatic breast cancer inspired her to create a sanctuary for those facing the harrowing journey of cancer.
The Foundation, since its inception in 2018, has been a cornerstone for families grappling with the daunting realities of cancer. Lauren’s story is one of survival and thriving against the odds. Diagnosed eight years ago, her journey took a pivotal turn amidst the serene backdrop of Yosemite, where she realized that life, even in its most challenging moments, is replete with endless possibilities.
Adventure Therapy’s mission is simple yet profound: to infuse lives with joy, connection, and the courage to embrace adventure. This year alone, they have masterfully orchestrated over 50 events, from exhilarating hikes to joyous holiday ice skating, touching the lives of nearly 700 individuals. These events are more than just gatherings; they are lifelines, providing essential tools for healing and overcoming the isolation that so often accompanies a cancer diagnosis.
The impact of these events is palpable. Families like that of Angela Castillo, who is in remission, and Laura Matlock, who has been cancer-free for five years, have found a new lease on life through Adventure Therapy. They share a common thread – finding peace, support, and the strength to reclaim the joy in their lives.
Lauren Huffmaster’s selfless dedication to this cause has not gone unnoticed. Her inspiring journey and the transformative impact of the Adventure Therapy Foundation have earned her the esteemed Jefferson Award in the Bay Area.
As the Foundation gears up for its next holiday skating party on December 20, we are reminded of the power of community, the strength of the human spirit, and the endless capacity for joy, even in life’s most challenging moments.
